Geocache Description:

The Brandsbutt Pictish Symbol Stone stands about 1 metre high. It was carved between 500 and 900 AD. The stone was restored to some extent after its removal from a dyke around the year 1900.
The symbols comprise of a V-rod & Crescent above a Z-rod and serpent.
On the left of the stone is an inscription in Ogham, an ancient language, and reads IRATADDOARENS which could relate to St Ethernances - a local saint.
Such an inscription reinforces the interpretation of at least some symbol stones being personal memorials.

The site of a stone circle has been marked out in the grass nearby the stone. Some of the surviving stones can be seen nearby, with one thought to be lying behind the Brandsbutt Stone.

The Stone is in the unlikely location of a housing estate.

There is a parking layby near cache co-ordinates.
The Stone is on Gordon Road. The Stone's location is signposted from Burghmuir Drive.

Cache is a nano.
