Geocache Description:


This is a multi-cache that will show you a few of the more interesting headstones in Ararat’s Cemetery. Should take you about 15 minutes.

Location 1
The initial coordinates will lead you to the Pioneer Headstones which were moved here from the Old Cemetery which was near the Ararat Hospital & J-Ward.
Agnes Black’s age when she died = AB.

Location 2

Denis Mooney was the first person buried in the Ararat Cemetery in 1862. Sadly he died at age 2 after accidentally falling in a tub of boiling water.
The age of Lawrence Mooney (Father of Denis) subtract 45 = C

The Guley family tragically had 5 children die within 10 days due to Diptheria in 1884. Thankfully we have vaccines today.

J.K McDougall was an MP for the seat of Wannon and also a poet. One of his poems which denounced war led to him being tarred and feathered by some returned servicemen.
