Die meisten Leute kennen Sternbilder wie "Der Große Bär" (= "Der Große Wagen"), oder "Orion", aber selbst Astronomen haben noch nie etwas vom Sternbild "Die Große Cache-Box" gehört. Zur Zeit (Februar / März) ist das Sternbild am Abendhimmel zu sehen, wenn man nach Süden schaut: Deutlich erkennt man die leicht geöffnete "Große Cache-Box" über dem Zugspitzmassiv schweben. Die "Große Cache-Box" enthält sogar eine "coin": das ist der helle Stern im Zentrum der Großen Cache-Box.
Die alten Griechen nannten das Sternbild "thesauros" = Schatz. Nach den Griechischen Sagen kann man einen Schatz finden, wenn man das Sternbild nur genau genug betrachtet.
Dank GPS ist das heute sogar einfach: die Sterne des Sternbilds liefern die ersten 6 Ziffern der Ost-Koordinate (die siebte Ziffer ist die 9).

Most of you may have heard of constellations such as "Orion the Hunter", "The Big Dipper", etc. But even astronomers have not heard of the constellation "The Big Cache-Box". You may identify this constellation currently (February / March) in the evening sky when looking South, hovering above the Zugspitze. "The Big Cache-Box" even contains a "coin": it is the bright star in the center of the box.
In Greek mythology, this constellation was called "thesauros", which means "treasure". The ancient Greeks believed that if one was searching for some hidden treasure, gazing at this constellation could be helpful.
Today this is quite easy thanks to GPS: the stars of the constellation will yield the first 6 digits of the East coordinate of a cache (the seventh digit is "9")
