This is my first cache.
It is an easy one on the High St in Bushey. If you have time, visit the Bushey Rose Garden.
From 1883 to 1912 the garden was the site of a famous art school, founded by the eminent Victorian artist Sir Hubert von Herkomer RA, which was continued until 1912 by Lucy Kemp-Welch, when the school was demolished, to create a garden for “Lululaund” the house Herkomer constructed for his wife Lulu. He commissioned Thomas Mawson to design the garden in exchange for his portrait, painted by Herkomer. Bushey Urban District Council bought the garden in 1937.
The garden had become dilapidated and was boarded up in 2005. Hertsmere Borough Council applied to the Heritage Lottery fund and were awarded full funding for the £1.5 million scheme in 2008. The newly-restored garden was opened by the Countess of Veralum on 24th July 2010.
The cache is available 24/7; note opening times for the Rose Garden, at the time of writing, are
