Geocache Description:

At last, Tour De Silver Star is out! A Multi-stage cache that requires information gathering at each stage with an ammo can at the final stage. This cache will take a minimum of one hour on alpine equipment, and may well take two to three hours to cover the ground, depending on your speed and navigation accuracy!

FTF prize is an unactivated Skifast Geocoin.

This should be a fun tour for those who are here alpine skiing. All stages are accessible by green/beginner runs. Nordic skiers can also access these waypoints as none of them are very far off nordic trails, but a lot of ground will be covered. Similar for summer cachers. Advance planning with a trail map and/or google maps may be helpful to plan the route, though I have laid out the waypoints in a logical sequence for alpine skiers.

Access: Free parking is available year-round. The easiest time to do this cache is in the winter on alpine ski equipment. All waypoints (including the final) can be accessed via green/beginner runs. Rentals are available on site, and lift tickets cost $71 for an adult full-day as of the 2010-2011 season. Nordic daypass is $21 for the day. Summer access is without a fee, as long as you don't ride the lift.

You may wish to print out the following information for the final calculation:

Waypoint 1: Near you is a significant welcoming sign/arch. How many pieces of wood is the structure (not including the sign with words on it) made from? Take this number and add two. This number is (A)

Waypoint 2: Smile for the webcam. Phone a friend and get them to save the image for you to post later! This is not a requirement, but since you're here...why not do it? This is the "Top of Comet" webcam on the mountain's website.

Waypoint 3: The number on the telephone pole is B

Waypoint 4: The number of lights on the outside of this little building is C

Waypoint 5: The number of letters on the BLACK trail sign here is D. (As an aside, I named this run when this part of the mountain was opened up several years ago, but I digress...)

Waypoint 6: The number on this sign is E

Waypoint 7: The large iconic creation to the SouthWest of you contains how many logs? This number is F

Waypoint 8: The round sign has how many words on it? This number is G, though you don't need it for the final. Thought I'd check and see how carefully you were reading and send you somewhere that you'll probably go anyway...

FINAL DECODE CALCULATION: N50 2(A-E).(B-D) (C-A) (D-7)
W119 0(E-F).(Fx3) (A+F+E) (A)
