Geocache Description:

The key to unlocking this mystery starts here.....!

This is no longer a part multi Cache so go directly to the final cache will take you down to a wonderous peaceful place of reflection Llangoedmor is a quiet place today, where not much goes on but rewind back time a thousand years or so and then it would have been another story...!

In the Dark Ages it was the home of Welsh Saint, Cynllo, whose knee imprints are said to exist in a rock, near the farm named Felin Gynllo.

Forward again to the 12th-century & it was also the site of a battle which was fought near Crûg Mawr, a conical hill in this parish, between the Welsh, commanded by Gruffudd ap Rhys "Prince ofDeheubarth" and the English, Defeated Gruffydd spent the next few years in exile in Ireland. He was able to raise enough men to attack a number of Norman castles and towns with some success. However an attack on Aberystwyth was thwarted and Gruffydd's army dispersed. Gruffydd came to terms with King Henry I of England and was allowed to rule a portion of his dead father's kingdom, the Cantref Mawr, although he was soon under pressure from the Normans again and was forced to flee to Ireland once more in 1127.

In 1136 Gruffydd joined forces with Owain Gwynedd and Cadwaladr in a rebellion against Norman rule. While Gruffydd was in Gwynedd seeking an alliance with his wife Gwenllian's father against the Normans, Maurice de Londres led raids against Deheubarth's Welsh, Gwenllian was compelled to raise an army for their defense. In the battle fought near Kidwelly Castle,.Gwenllian's army was routed, and she was captured, then was beheaded by the Normans. her son Morgan was also slain and another son, Maelgwyn was captured and executed..A spring in the field is also named after her, supposedly welling up on the spot where she was beheaded. For centuries after her death, Welshmen cried-out Revenge for Gwenllian when engaging in battle.Gruffydd himself with Owain and Cadwaladr gained a crushing victory over the Normans at Crug Mawr in the same year. In 1137 Gruffydd gained further success in Dyfed, but died shortly afterwards in uncertain circumstances
