Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORD"S BUT THAT IS A GOOD PLACE TO PARK TO START YOUR SEARCH!!!!!

This cache is dedicated to my cahing buddies the BAND OF HAWKS: aka Guts and Feddo who have been members since October 2005.

To find the cache you must do some research. You will need to find the common names of the HAWK species I have listed then once you have the common name count the letters to get your answer. For example if I said "A. soloensis" the common name would be "Chinese Goshawk" and your answer would be 14. Easy! Now for your hawk lesson!!!

The term hawk refers to birds of prey in any of three senses:

1) Strictly, to mean any of the species in the bird sub-family Accipitrinae in the genera Accipiter, Micronisus, Melierax, Urotriorchis, and Megatriorchis. The large and widespread Accipiter genus includes goshawks, sparrowhawks, the Sharp-shinned Hawk and others. They are mainly woodland birds that hunt by sudden dashes from a concealed perch. They usually have long tails and high visual acuity.
2) More generally, to mean small to medium-sized birds that are members of the Accipitridae, the family which includes the true hawks (Accipiters) and also eagles, kites, harriers, buzzards, and Old World vultures.
3) Loosely, to mean almost any bird of prey.

The common names of birds in various parts of the world often use hawk loosely. For example, in North America, the Buteos are often called "hawks".

In February 2005 the Canadian scientist Dr Louis Lefebvre announced a method of measuring avian IQ in terms of their innovation in feeding habits. Hawks were named among the most intelligent birds based on this scale.

Hawks are believed to have vision as good as 20/2, about eight times more acute than humans with good eyesight. This is because of many photoreceptors in the retina (Up to 1,000,000 per square mm, against 200,000 for humans), a very high number of nerves connecting the receptors to the brain, a second set of eye muscles not found in other animals, and an indented fovea which magnifies the central part of the visual field.

Now for your test!!!

Find the common names of the following HAWK species, then count the letters in the name (only count the letters, if there is a hyphen DO NOT count that) to give you your answer!

A=A. nisus
B=A. toussenelii
C= A. henicogrammus
D=A. erythropus
E=A. madagascariensis
F= A. cooperii

OK you got your answers? Now for the puzzle part!

To get your final coord's:

N 42 29.(A-19)(D-20)(F-5) and
W 083 12.(E-19)(C-9)(B-10)

To check your answer: (visit link)

Due to bouncing coord's in the woods, the coords will be accurate to within 20 feet.

Once you get to GZ look for an area where something may hide. You will be looking for another type of Bird of Prey.

UPDATE: Puzzle had a problem which is now fixed and the original OWL container was stolen so you are now looking for a regular small type container.
