This cache has been archived.

Bunjil: I cannot see any information that suggests to me that steps have been taken to resolve the issue/s associated with this placement - one or more of the following applies:

             - Cache Owner unable to maintain cache
             - No response from the cache owner.
             - No cache to find or log to sign.
             - It has been more than 28 days since the last owner note.
             - Cache has been abandoned by cache owner/cache in disrepair

As a result I am archiving this cache to keep from continually showing up in search lists and to also prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the next 28 days, just contact a reviewer (by email and include GC number in cache name) and, assuming it still meets the current guidelines, the reviewer will be happy to unarchive it.

If there are components or remnants of the cache and you haven't already done so, please return to the GZ and collect the cache (or remnants). We don't want to litter our environment with Geotrash.

Should you wish to replace the cache after 28 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

Geocache Description:

Opposite the cache location was the once famous 'Skatewave' roller skating rink. Before skate parks, as kids and young adolescents, we would hang out here and enjoy all the fun 'Skatewave' had in store for us.

Skatewave was a popular roller rink in Shepparton during the 70’s and into the late 80’s. It was a dank, dark and smelly place, but we loved it while it was around. It was definitely the place to be. Anyone who was anyone was seen there, and oh the excitement and anticipation when one of your friends announced that they were having their birthday party at Skatewave. PARTY!!! Whoop Whoop!!

I still remember the wall of scratched, dented and damaged hire skates and the smug looks on the faces of the kids who had their own expensive skates. The waft from the kiosk of all the deep fried dodgy food. The experienced skaters performing all sorts of trick in the middle of the rink with their groupies watching on, while those new to skating gripped the side rail and clung on for dear life as they slooowwwwlllyyy, hand over hand, pulled their way around the rink.

There were always games to play on your visits as well. Pick a card, where you went to one of the corners when the music stopped and were then eliminated if your corners card was picked. Boy you were lucky if you were the last one standing. You got some crappy prize.

Speed skating races. The best of the best would battle it out for yet another crappy prize. Oh the jealousy I felt knowing that I was never fast enough to take part. The game of limbo was also great. Me knocking off the bar after a few goes and then watching from the side as friends would somehow manage to contort their bodies to get below the bar sitting only a few centimetres off the ground. And not to forget the great DJ who played the latest hits as you made your way around.

There is barely any recorded information on Skatewave and my friends’ memory on actual dates is extremely sketchy. But from what I have gathered during the late 1980’s possibly the very early 1990’s, Skatewave went out of business. The building then became the first sight of Spotlight, which in the years since has relocated out to Benalla road. The current business, Walls & Windows, now occupies the original building.

The Cache:

The cache is larger than a usual micro container. No room for a pen, so please BYO. The difficulty rating reflects the camouflage of the container as well as muggle activity around GZ.
Also a scratchie for the FTF. Best of Luck.
