Transporte de electricidade
A actividade de transporte de electricidade é efectuada através da Rede Nacional de Transporte (RNT), mediante uma concessão atribuída pelo Estado Português, em regime de serviço público e de exclusividade, à REN SA.
A distribuição de electricidade processa-se através da exploração da rede nacional de distribuição (RND) constituída por infra-estruturas ao nível da alta e média tensão, assim como da exploração das redes de distribuição de baixa tensão. A rede nacional de distribuição é operada através de uma concessão exclusiva atribuída pelo Estado Português.
Actualmente, a concessão exclusiva para a actividade de distribuição de electricidade em alta e média tensão pertence à EDP Distribuição. As redes de distribuição de baixa tensão continuam a ser operadas no âmbito de contratos de concessão estabelecidos entre os municípios e os distribuidores, actualmente concentrados na EDP Distribuição.
A contestação à instalação de linhas de alta tensão em zonas urbanas existe à muitos anos e de vez em quando volta às ruas. Muitas localidades tem vindo a terreiro dizer ao Ministro da Economia e Inovação que, apesar do rótulo de interesse nacional, os objectivos da REN estão em rota de colisão com a qualidade de vida e os direitos da população.
Sendo um mal necessário e não estando provado muitos dos seus malefícios, tanto para a saúde como para a flora e fauna, tem existindo um equilíbrio entre o que a REN quer e o que as populações reivindicam.
