Geocache Description:

Ammo Box

Captain A. D. Starr established Vallejo’s first flour mill in South Vallejo in 1869. Flour shipped from the port of Vallejo would travel to Asia, South America and Europe as Vallejo became the largest flour shipping port in California. In 1869 22 ships loaded wheat valued at over $1,250,000 in six months.

1869

In 1894 the Sperry firm purchased the Flour Mill.

In 1929 the Sperry MIll was combined with General Mills. On August 30, 1934, one of Vallejo’s most spectacular fires destroyed most of the site. A large part of the plant was rebuilt after the blaze. The current facility closed in October of 2004.
