Geocache Description:

This cache was released as part of the Third Annual Hills Geocaching Event

As a volunteer firefighter this is a personal account of the fires in and around the Kenthurst area on the 16th of October 1991. Temperatures were around 36 degrees, humidity around 10% with the wind blowing at around 40km/h. At around midday a large bush fire started on Pitt Town Rd near Lang Rd in Kenthurst. Our tankers were the first on the scene and were powerless to control the blaze. Within just a few hours the fire made its way eastward over Orana Rd, through Porters Rd, Hafey Rd, right where this cache sits today through to Cranstons Rd, Dural. More than 150 appliances were deployed with the fire close to under control by midnight. Unfortunately two lives were lost in Orana Rd. 14 homes were destroyed in and around the Kenthurst area.
This cache is dedicated to the people who lost their lives that day and the fire fighters who saved Kenthurst from total destruction.
You're looking for a Lock-N-Lock Container covered in camo. If you look closely around the area you will still see scares from the fire today. Many of the trees never grew back. You will find the cache near one of the reminders of that terrible day.
