Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates, but it is within 2 miles.

One of my buddies, George, invented a new number puzzle game, called Sujiken, that is similar to Sudoku, but with a twist.

This is the second hardest cache in a five-cache puzzle series.

This cache is part of a series that requires you to find mystery caches by first solving four Sujiken puzzles of varying difficulty. Each of the four puzzle solutions contains the coordinates for a cache, and placed in each physical cache container is part of a final "Killer" Sujiken puzzle, whose solution leads to a fifth cache. A blank Sujiken board can be downloaded here. The clue for the fifth cache is taped both to the cache container, as well as to the back of the log book, in this cache.

If you are new to Sujiken, you might want to start with the easiest cache in this series.

The rules for Sujiken are simple, and are as follows:

  1. The goal is to fill all empty cells in the Sujiken board shown below.
  2. Place the digits from 1 to 9 so no digit is repeated within a horizontal row, vertical column, or diagonal in any direction.
  3. No digit is repeated within the three triangular regions and the three 3x3 square regions marked by thick borders.
  4. You can logically determine the solution without guessing.
  5. Each puzzle has only one solution.

Each column in the Sujiken board is denoted by a letter (A-I), and each row by a number (1-9).

After solving the puzzle, if you add up all the numbers in a given row (row 1, for example), you will get a number (Row1). Similarly, if you add up all the numbers in a given column (column D, for example), you will get a number (ColD). Do this computation for every row and column in your solution, and use those results in order to calculate the location of the cache according to the formulas below.

N 42 2S.TUV
W 071 2W.XYZ

S = ColD - Row5
T = ColB - ColC
U = ( ColF + Row9 ) - Row7
V = ColA - Row1

W = Row3 - Row4
X = ColE - Row6
Y = Row1 - ColC
Z = ColD - Row7

Notes on the Cache Sites:

  • You do NOT need to park on, nor cross, any major roads.
  • Please replace the cache where you found it, and attempt to keep it hidden from sight.

There is an interesting prize for the FTF.

Congrats again to Cook01821 on the FTF! This time, 2 hours and 45 minutes (165 min.). On to #5!
