Geocache Description:

The cache is placed in Matsunoo Taisha Shrine.

This shrine was built in 701 by Hata Clan whose root had lived in Korean peninsula. After The Capital moved to Heian-kyo (old name of Kyoto), this shrine was worshipped as a guardian of The Imperial Palace.
The origin of this shrine is thought that a god stayed in a great rock near the top of Mt. Matsuo, which was enshrined by local people, and the spirit was invited to this shrine when it was built. Today Mt. Matsuo is still thought a sanctuary and a special permission is required to enter the area.
The shrine owns many important cultural heritages including the main building.
