This is one of our favorite places. You have a good chance of seeing a number different species of water fowls and other types of wildlife.
Wood ducks are often seen here and are a sight to see when flying in at sunset.

Wood ducks are part of the Dabbling duck group, they prefer beaver ponds and secluded undisturbed streams surrounded by trees. They primarily feed on vegetation and will sometime be found far from water in order to feed on acorns.

Females are mostly brown but the male wood duck’s beautiful plumage has earned him the title of the most beautiful duck in North America.

To help maintain a healthy population of Woodies, landowners and public interest groups will construct nesting boxes to ensure there will be suitable nesting areas for the hens. Nesting boxes are usually found along woodlines and are usually 5 to 6 feet off the ground. Nesting boxes need to be maintained yearly and is typically done in the winter.
For waterfowls wood ducks migrate early. They have been found to migrate long distances from Methuen Township Ontario, Canada to Flora City and Tallahassee Florida.
