Geocache Description:

This cache was one of a series placed when the West Mids Cachers' website was active - but it has gone now, superseded by Facebook.

Hardwick Hall has been a Grade 11* listed building since 27th May 1953. It was built circa 1720-30 as a country house for John Kynaston, possibly by Frances Smith of Warwick, and consists of a red brick house with sandstone ashlar facing to the centre section and a slate roof which is hidden by the high eaves parapet. The main building is rectangular with flanking semi-circular walls (screening later additions) which link with projecting wings. To the left is the stable-block and to the right other service buildings. There are 3 storeys. At the centre of the front face is the Kynaston family coat-of-arms with their motto "DEUS ES NOBIS SOL ET ENSIS". All the windows are multi-paned with a mixture of cast-iron and wooden lights. There are various 18th and 19th Century additions, including a former laundry attached to the east side.
