My grandpa, Gerald LaVet Erickson, was an architect in the area
around here. He, unfortunately, died when I was seven years old.
After getting into this whole Geocaching thing, I thought that it'd
be a lot of fun to put caches over near places he designed!
Well, actually this one is near where he used to work as an
architect. There is no need to leave the sidewalk or go onto the
private property.
You're looking for a camo'd childproof pill bottle.
When my Grandpa started working as an architect, he worked with
a group called "Higgins and Root." The group is, of course, no
longer located nearby...but the office buildings are exactly the
same! They're surrounded by trees, and it's no wonder that my
Grampa Gerry worked there. For office buildings, it's a gorgeous
area.
Grampa Gerry Anecdote: How He Got Started
Designing
My Grampa Gerry enlisted in the army during WWII, even though he
was too old to be drafted and had a very secure job working at the
docks in San Francisco - which of course had my Gramma Eddie
FURIOUS with him.
Well, while he was out in the war, he threw a grenade...then
stood up to see that it landed where it was supposed to. Needless
to say, this was a BAD idea. He got thrown back from the blast and
really hurt himself - got sent home having earned a purple heart
due to the injury. This injury caused him to develop aphasia
(specifically, Dysgraphia) - an inability to be able to write
anymore.
His physical therapy for this was to practice writing by using a
ruler. This developed into his gateway into the architectural
community. First, as a draftsman...then later as a full blown
architect.
