Geocache Description:

One of two new caches in Old Kays park, which is a pleasant area of mixed woodland, with a recently re-developed children's adventure play area and some open grassland. The park is often wet and muddy so wellies or boots are a good idea.

The name of Kay is noteworthy in these parts; John Kay invented the "picking peg " or Flying Shuttle at the start of the industrial revolution, and in the early 18th century, Roger Kay bequeathed a sum of money for the foundation of Bury Grammar School for girls.

"Old Kays" was the name of the farm which used to own the area of land now a designated recreation area, looked after by Bury Countryside Rangers and also selected for the Family Tree Scheme, launched in 1981, where families could donate money in memory of a loved one to have trees planted. Local groups got involved too. The trees thrived and are thinned out periodically to give them more light and to provide a better habitat for wild creatures and flowers.

Parking is available at N53º37.238' W002º20.568' at the bottom of Holly Mount Lane, or park on Turton Road near to Woodstock Drive and take the signed public footpath.

The cache is a lock and lock box with log book, pencil and swaps.
