I was
recently talking with an old friend of mine, and we were
reminiscing about all the stunts we used to pull. There were many
times we were very close to death and we didn’t even realize
it. It all seemed like a good idea at the time. It started when we
were very young, trying to jump our bikes over a drainage ditch
like we saw stuntmen on tv doing with the greatest of ease. It
wasn’t as easy as it looked, but it started out with
“Hey man, Watch this!” The more we thought back, it
seemed like every stunt was preceded by one of us saying “Hey
man, Watch this!” Like the time one of us crashed a
snowmobile into a tree because we knew we could make the turn wide
open. “Hey man, Watch this!” Or the time I broke my leg
trying to ski down a double black diamond run, “Hey man,
watch this!” Then there was a time that someone broke their
leg by jumping off a second floor balcony and attempting to land in
a lawn chair “Hey man, watch this!” The list can go on
and on, and these are just the legal stunts. If our parents had any
idea what we were up to, we would have been chained to our front
porch.
So
anyway, this got me thinking about caching and some of the stuff we
go through to get to a cache. We’ve crossed fallen trees over
raging rivers. “Hey man, Watch this!” We have walked
across ice that seemed to crack a little under our weight.
“Hey man, Watch this!” We've climbed shaky ladders to
get to a container at the top of an old telephone pole "Hey man,
Watch this!" We’ve stood on the side of the road looking in
street signs while cars went flying by at 50+ miles an hour.
“Hey man, Watch this!” We’ve waded through swamps
not knowing how deep it would get, what parasites were in the
water, or if there was any hostile animals nearby. “Hey man,
Watch this!” We have reached into places that could have any
of a number of creatures or dangers inside. “Hey man, Watch
this!” I guess some of us never grow up.
So I
dedicate this puzzle to everyone out there that has ever said the
words “Hey man, Watch this!” As with most of the things
I have listed, I’m not sure how this will turn out or how it
will be perceived in the end, but here it goes……
“Hey man, Watch this!”
