Maiden Castle Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: Sadly there seems to be no response to the plea for adoption.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Near the Overgrown earthworks of an Iron Age fort over looking the Durham University Sports Center of the same name.

The cache is located to the west of top of the hill where the fort was located. A path takes you up and round where the fort was supposed to be.
Although the river Wear now touches the site only on one side, the local topography suggests that the site may have been chosen because, at that time, the river enclosed it on three sides, the river having since adopted a more easterly course across its floodplain.
The name "maiden" probably means a "fortification that looks impregnable" or one that has never been taken in battle.

Small-medium cache in a camo bag. Please place as you found it.

This is my first cache, so any suggestions are appreciated!
