Butte View Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

PurpHaze: Due to the overwhelming degree with which a geocache thief has been pillaging caches throughout the Yakima River Canyon areas I have decided that it is not worth the effort to replaced this cache. Thanks to all who have visited and apologies to those whose fun this misinformed person has put a damper on. Cache on!

Geocache Description:

Camo-painted bottle; swag/log/stash note; BYOP/P

Cache is located in a Federal Recreational area and you will need a BLM day use permit or yearly federal lands use permit for this one if you're planning on using the parking lot. This is a terrific area to hike, get some exercise and take geo-dogs for a run.

As always, use caution whenever reaching into hiding holes and it's best to carry a walking stick for such purposes. Rattlesnakes have been seen in this canyon during the warmer months. Also either use insect repellent or check for ticks on clothing during the warmer months. There is abundant wildlife in the area so keep your eyes open and camera handy.

While hiking out to the Wildcat cache I decided that there was just too much room between caches so decided to hide a couple of new ones to make the hike just a bit more interesting.

From this point on the trail you can look up and see several volcanic buttes hanging along the canyon rim. There are many holes in these escarpments and you'll often see birds of prey at home. Looking down towards Umtanum Creek you also have a good view of one interesting butt. You'll figure it out. Enjoy the journey!
