Lorenden is a small but beautiful park in Painter's Forstal near
Faversham. The park is administered by a charitable trust, the
Lorenden Parkland Trust. The aims of the Trust are to preserve the
parkland estate and conserve the wildlife. The trust is happy for
members of the public to use the footpaths in the park, but ask
that dogs are kept under strict control, and that you do not play
ball games or climb the trees. The park used to belong to the house
formerly called Lorenden, which now houses Lorenden Preparatory
School. The park is a lovely location for a stroll and is popular
with dog walkers. In the spring there are carpets of snowdrops and
daffodils, and the foliage is beautiful in the autumn. There used
to be a stream running through the park down to a lake, but this
has now dried up, though the old bridge that used to cross the
stream remains.
You may wish to do this cache as part of a circular walk from
Ospringe, and take in some of the other local caches (e.g. Church Micro 281 - Ospringe and
Feeling Fruity? What a Scorcher! ). This route does involve
walking on roads with no footpath, so please take care if you're
caching with children. Beginning at Ospringe Church, follow the
footpath from the back of the churchyard across the fields. When
you come to a road, cross over and take the Painter's Forstal road,
crossing the M2. About a quarter of a mile on your left, you will
come to a footpath that takes you through to Lorenden Park. When
you have finished in the park exit via the lower park gate, near
the old bridge, and turn left onto the road, which will take you
uphill, past Brogdale Farm, back over the motorway and onto the A2.
Turn left to head back into Ospringe, or return to Faversham town
centre by turning right onto the A2, crossing the road via the
footbridge, and then turn left down The Mall, which can be followed
down into the town.
