After I did Vanity Vertex I was looking at this hill to place a cache on. It was going to be another classic Norkmeister, "me too" cache. The I noticed what I took to be a very straight "tree". BatGirl and I pondered what it was and she (correctly) noted. "You want to go up there don't you?". Well I did, but I gave her the power of veto, which we declined so up we went.
Once we got there the "tree" indeed turned out to be a pole, not a tree and we were confronted by the strangest object I have found in the middle of the forest. What it is and why it is there, I had no idea. Some later caching that day answered what it is, but I still don't understand its purpose. So come out here and ponder, then head off a short distance and admire the view.
To find the cache: At the listed coordinates make a number of observations:
- Find a sign indicating A.0m
- Find a stencilled string of characters, repeated: BMCDEF
- Number of antennae on the pole = G
Calculate GZ according to the following formula:
S 35° 20.(C+G)AB E 148° 54.(B-E)(D+G)(F-G)
