Technic Krungthep BRT Station
BRT Bus Rapid Transit is a new transit system in Bangkok, Thailand. A plan has been approved to build 5 bus routes to a design similar to the TransJakarta. The first route, Sathon to Ratchaphruek, opened to the public on 29 May 2010.
The five BRT routes will cover just over 110 kilometres and cost nearly 13 billion baht. The routes can accommodate 50,000 passengers a day in the first year.
The first route from Sathon to Ratchaphruek via Narathiwat Ratchanakharin and Rama III roads, opened to the public on 29 May 2010. This was later than 12 August 2008 as originally planned. The service will run as a free trial through to the end of August 2010, followed by a flat fare from September to December 2010, with the distance-based fare scheme being introduced in 2011. However, the flat rate was extended for another 6 months from January 1, 2011.
