The coordinates listed are for the check-in point, the classroom just behind the Hinckley Boathouse. This evening event is 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
Join us in Hinckley Reservation and find hidden geocaches in many different ways! This is a chance to try something NEW!
There will be eight different multi-caches, each with different ways to find them and different terrain and difficulty levels. You may find as many of them as you would like durring the alloted time. They range from quick and easy to moderately challenging.
Each group of people must supply their own GPS unit.
If you have bikes or roller blades, you may want to bring them.
Cleveland Metroparks canoes and kayaks will be available to use. There is a limited number of canoes, kayaks and other special equipment.
Everyone attending this event must fill out a Waiver and Release form. For most people, a short waiver (up to 5 people listed on one paper) needs to be filled out. If you would like to fill this out in advance, it is attached to this page as an image. Youth who will be attending but whose parents or guardians are not attending (such as scouts or neighbor kids) must have the two page youth waiver filled out by their parent or guardian in advance and bring this waiver with them. This waiver is available as an image on this cache page, please note that since it is two sided, you need to print two images. If you have any questions, please contact Carly Martin at 440-247-7075.
While the time for this event is 4-8 p.m., no Cleveland Metroparks boats will leave the shore after 7:15 p.m. We need all boats returned to shore no later than 7:50 p.m.
Check-in will be in the classroom behind the Boat House. An adult must accompany all children. If a child’s parent will not be present, please call in advance for a permission slip and waiver form (440) 247-7075 or geocaching@clevelandmetroparks.com.
Please come prepared for the weather and active outdoor activities. There will be light consessions this year, including snacks, beverages and hotdogs (Thanks to the Girl Scouts). You may also bring a picnic with you.
It is not necessary to leave anything in the caches. There will be things to take and some prizes.
This year we are pleased to announce that Institute of the Great Outdoors is partnering with us to host this event. They will add some fun twists and plenty of expertise to this event.
If you have any questions, call (440) 247-7075 or geocaching@clevelandmetroparks.com. RSVP is requested but not required. There is no fee for this event.
If you are coming in from out of town there are two campgrounds that are nearby. Portage Lakes State Park has 74 non-electric sites (330) 644-2220. Tamsin Park also has camping (330) 656-2859.
Also, just a reminder that if you are traveling in from afar, please DO NOT transport any firewood. State and local officials are trying desperately to slow the spread of Emerald Ash borer bettles into the area. They are most likely spread by transporting of firewood.
You may log one find for each of the caches that you found, plus one for attending the event.
