The Cache is NOT at the
posted coordinates but does lead to an appropriate spot for the
theme of the cache.
With the baseball season just around the corner, I thought a
sequel to the first Pencils and Scorecards was appropriate. While
sharing the same name, the puzzle is different.
Hopefully the puzzle is fun b/c the actual hide is a boring lamp
post skirt. Stealth is neccesary as muggles can pop out at any
time.

The Cubs were close to winning their first World Series in over 100
years. I was sitting in the Bleachers rooting them on and hoping
that unlike previous years, nothing would get in the way. The score
was Cubs 4 –Yankees 2 and mgbmusic just finished singing Take
Me Out to The Ball Game. The Cubs did not score a run in the bottom
of the 7th inning and the Yankees were coming to bat in the 8th
inning.
Only 6 outs stood between the World Series Trophy coming to Wrigley
Field.
The Cubs Lineup Looked Like This
1B: Albert Pujols
(Deadline trade/Woo-Hoo!!!)
2B: Blake
Dewitt
SS: Starlin
Castro
3B: Aramis
Ramirez
C:
Geovony Soto
LF: Alfonso
Soriano
CF: Marlyn
Byrd
RF: Tyler
Colvin
P: Kerry
Wood.
EIGHTH INNING
The first hitter for the Yankees in the top of the 8th was Robinson
Cano. On a 3-2 pitch, he hit a sinking line drive to shallow
centerfield. Byrd got a great jump and made a diving catch for the
first out.
Nick Swisher came up next and Wood walked him on four pitches. The
next batter was Jorge Posada. Posada took the first pitch offered
by Wood and lined a shot to the left field corner. Soriano was able
to cut off the ball before it went to the wall and made a laser
throw to Ramirez at third base. The throw just beat Swisher who was
trying to advance to third and Ramirez applied the tag for the
second out of the inning. Posada advanced to second.
Since Wood was being roughed up, Mike Quade, decided to go to his
closer Carlos Marmol.
The first hitter to face Marmol was catcher Russell Martin. On the
first pitch, Martin hit a lazy fly ball to Soriano who did his hop
and made the catch for the last out of the 8th inning.
The Cubs did not score in the bottom of the 8th and the game
proceeded to the 9th. Three outs to go and the Cubs would be World
Series champs.
NINTH INNING
Brett Gardner led off for the Yankees. Marmol got behind in the
count 3-1. Soto called for the heat and Marmol threw a fastball
down the middle, which Gardner lined to second. Luckily the Cubs
had him positioned perfectly and DeWitt was standing in the balls'
path to make the catch. Two outs to go!!!!!
Derek Jeter came to the plate. He was already 3-3 on the day. Quade
made a defensive move and sent in Kosuke Fukudome to replace
Soriano in Left Field. Jeter fell behind 1-2 in the count and then
hit a ball just over Dewitt’s head and into right field.
Colvin did not get a great jump on the ball and Jeter, despite the
first base coach’s sign to stay at first, decided to try and
stretch it into a double. Colvin got to the ball and fired the ball
to Castro who applied the tag for out number 2. Wow!!! One out to
go!!!!
The fans were all on their feet and in shock that this could be it.
Curtis Granderson came to the plate and hit the first pitch into
center for a base hit. Uh oh!!
Now the tying run came to the plate in the name of Alex Rodriguez.
ARod had hit a two run homerun earlier in the game and he now came
to the plate representing the tying run. Marmol got ahead 2-1 and
then delivered a 100mph fastball. ARod nailed it and the ball
sailed 450 feet and out of the park. Luckily, the ball hooked foul
and it was just a long strike. Soto went out to calm down Marmol
and then Marmol delivered the next pitch. ARod hit a line drive
between Fukudome and Byrd. Fukudome got to the ball first and
fielded it cleanly. As he spun around toward the infield, he saw
that Granderson was going to try and score all the way from first.
Fukudome fired home and Soto was in position blocking the plate.
The ball and Granderson arrived at the same time and Soto applied
the tag. The home plate umpire took a few moments to make sure Soto
hung on and when he confirmed he had, called Granderson out.
