isht kinta: # Unresolved Cache Maintenance Issue #

Hello Cache Owner

I was wondering what is the status of your geocache? It has been several weeks since I last noted that the cache needs maintenance.

Are you still planning on repairing or replacing it?

  • If so, please post a note to the cache page about its status.
  • If you do not plan on replacing the cache, please archive the cache yourself!

Per the Geocaching Guidelines section on Cache owner responsibilities, maintenance issues with caches are expected to be addressed within 4 weeks.

I shall check back in a couple of weeks. If no action has been taken at that time I shall archive the geocache.

Geocache Description:

Happyland, Alabama as it was originally known and listed on all maps, was once also called Clacksville. Now it is once again Happyland!

Happyland was once a very happy place consisting of three stores and several homes. The metal building which is now Beaird's Happyland Grocery was once an appliance business. Directly in front of it was W. Clack's Store it last use was as a washeteria. Across the road to the south is the foundation remains of J. Clack's Grocery which was once a Union 76 Gas Station and down the road to the West is what was the Pure Station. The Randolph Bike Hike was the first event of it's kind, held to raise funds for the Learning Center. It started in the late 60's and was actually a full 25 miles (some years a little more) This small town was on the route of the bike ride. Mr. Ben Beaird bought the business from Mr. J. Clack and operated it at that location form many years until he passed away. From that location he sold many things including fireworks, groceries and was well known for the coldest beverages in the area. Mr. J. Clack was known as the mayor of Clacksville. After his death someone told him he would be out by the first of the year. Sure enough a strange fire burned it down on the night of the 19th. Mr. Beaird bought the location that was no longer being operated as an appliance business and moved in. Clacksville was soon followed by many morbid incidents. A man chopped off his wife's head and went to prison. Later on a man was robbed, so he went and shot the grandmother, mother and grandson. The grandmother died and the other two lived. A few years later there were four suicides in less than ten days. Mr. Beaird did not want to be "mayor" of such a morbid place, so he started calling his business by the original name "Happyland" as it was still listed on some maps that way. Since that time there has not been anymore calamaty to the area. Mr. Beaird still has the coldest drinks around, so while you are here, step on inside and walk into the Cold Storage, yes customers go in and pick up their own drinks from in there. You will notice the old rustic style store with a lot of personality. Try the Uncle Ray's, I think you will find them very unusual. But most of all ask him to tell you a tale or two. He has quite a few. So besides once being an active pilot, there are many other unique things in this man's past.

Cache placed with permission, but he will never tell the location.
