Geocache Description:

Dead Horse Canyon is a steep-sided canyon that gets it's name for obvious reasons, there was a dead horse there. The skull is hanging on the side of a tree at one end of the canyon. The cache is not actually in the canyon, but it is at one end of it and I recommend you go ahead and hike the canyon, it will make a loop back to the main trail. After finding the cache, take the trail very near the cache down into the canyon. The trail is steep, but not so steep that you can't stay upright on your feet.
You can park at High Knob campground or at the top of High Knob. Take the River to River trail to trail 146 heading north. The cache is nearly 2 miles from where you'll park. There is another cache (GCKCE6) located near the top of High Knob that you can get on the way in or out. Also another cache GC2QPXG (Get to the Point) is located on the bluff at Grindstaff Lake. If you do the round trip loop for all 3 caches, it will be a 5-6 mile hike, but well worth it. You'll see lots of rock formations. Most of the trails are shared with horse riders, so please be courteous and yield to horses, but don't hide, make yourself visible and speak to them so the horses won't think you are monsters in the woods. When parking at the campground, don't park next to electrical hookups, please leave room for campers. It is not necessary to check in at the office, but it might be helpful to do so anyway.
