Camp Adair Meet & Teach Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

valsetzpegleg: O.K. It's been plenty of time for all to sign off on this event, so I'll now archive it. I'm thinking about doing it again next year, and have had favorable responses to the idea. One thing that will be different next year, and I hope it won't adversly effect the event, is that the State Fish & Wildlife department is in the process of turning their lands into parking permits required. Sauvey Island has been this way for ten years now, and they are adding about four new areas to the program each year. So, after January 1, 2012, you will need a parking permit for E.E. Wilson (Camp Adair). They are $7 a day, or $22 for an annual. This is good for all of their areas. If you buy a hunting license, the permit is free. For us seniors, if you are 65, and have lived in Oregon for at least 50 years, you can get a "Pioneer license" for free. So, even though I haven't hunted for years, I will get my annual Pioneer license and permit for free, and do some free fishing while I'm at it.
I hope that this will not deture people from attending, as long as one person in the car has the permit, the rest get in free. Think carpooling if necessasary. Happy hunting!

How about a meet & teach in one of the more popular caching sites. I have permission from the Fish & Wildlife to use their gazebo/picnic area for Saturday May 7th. You will need to park at the fishing lake parking spot, or any of the other pull offs along the main road. Head North through the gates, and when you reach the first East-West street head for the waymark for the gazebo. Besides meeting other local cachers, I hope that some of us will invite muggles to come along to learn the sport. For those who have not had the pleasure of Camp Adair caching, here’s a little info. Wear long pants and sleeves as there are blackberries and poison oak! Most caches can be reached fairly close to paved pathways. There is a restroom at the gazebo, and a portapotty at the lake. I would like to start after lunch, with some quick lessons for newbies. Then hopefully, some of the old timers will adopt one or two, and we will go caching. If you want to bring a picnic lunch, there are picnic tables at the gazebo. I hope that we will have some of the cache owners present to defend their devious choices of torment. I do believe that there MIGHT be a new cache or two to search for.
IMPORTANT! This will be ground nesting season for the birds, so any dogs MUST be on a leash at all times! This is a good area to geocache by bike because of the old paved streets. Since Fish & Wildlife is letting us use their facilities for free, I think it would be nice if we picked up a little litter while we hunt. This is not a requirement, but could assure future uses of the site. See you there and, Happy Hunting!
