Geocache Description:

The bison herd north of the posted coordinates are often visible from this location. One of the most unique features of this herd are the several rare white bison. Feel free to post photographs with your log entries, but please be respectful when visiting this site, as many people come here to pray and give offerings.

The birth of a white bison is an extremely rare event, so rare in fact, that the event is considered extraordinarily sacred. Due to the remarkable appearance and rarity over the centuries, white buffalo have became a powerful symbol in Native and First Nation's cultures and at this location visitors will have the opportunity to view several of these animals.

The Lakota story of White Buffalo Calf Woman tells of a spirit appearing as a beautiful young woman, dressed in white buckskin, who presents both the sacred pipe and the knowledge of the seven sacred ceremonies as gifts to the Lakota People. As the woman turns to leave, she transforms into a buffalo calf and rolls upon the earth four times, changing color each time - black, red, yellow and finally white. Standing, the white buffalo calf walks towards the horizon until it disappears. Almost at the same time as her leaving, great herds of buffalo could b seen surrounding the camp. It is said that after that day, the Lakota have always honored the sacred pipe, the seven sacred ceremonies, and the sacred white buffalo.

Sig-card and Buffalo Nickel are placed as the FTF prize.
