Geocache Description:

This cache marks the start of one of the original Spa Walks which were established during the development of Croft Spa as a Health resort in the early 19th century.

Part of the Croft On Tees Spa Walk Series (Cache No: 1)

Visitors staying at the local Croft Spa Hotel would take the direct route from the village via Richmond Lane, up a few stone steps and alongside Croft Hall grounds, through the high side of Echo Field where wooden benches allowed a rest, (the benches have now been removed) and into the New Spa drive.

Please note this route is no longer open but an alternative route has been opened as a public footpath and is signed next to the cache site.

Unfortunately the location of the New Spa is now on private grounds but the original location can be seen from the public footpath.

The circular walk along the footpath should take approximately 1 hour or maybe a little longer if you do all three caches on route

You can find the cache sites on route at the links below:

If you wish to explore the footpath further after the second cache (GC2QE1T) just follow it down the hill, over the little bridge and into the woodland.

You then have two options either

1.Turn right up the track and hop over two styles where you should arrive back at the main road.

2.Carry straight on to the next cache and from there return to the car via another footpath.

Parking is available at the side of the road at N 54° 28.857 W 001° 33.500 and also at N 54° 28.765 W 001° 33.742 both parking areas are also shown as waypoints
