Designated as a public open space, The area is currently managed for nature conservation and recreation. It also incorporates a flood defence measure.

At 5.5 hectares, the site is relatively small in terms of nature conservation. However it is ideal as an educational resource and forms an important stepping stone for migratory species, along the Highcliffe to Christchurch Harbour wildlife corridor. The site is also high in wildflower diversity with over 250 species recorded. The site was formerly declared as a local nature reserve (LNR) on 24 July 2005.
The site is a designated poop scoop area and visited by the dog warden on a
regular basis. An on-the-spot fine is attached to non-compliance. Dogs must also be
kept on a lead around the fishing pond and cycling is restricted to the cycle path.
While you are there have a walk and see what ells you can find :-
Kingfisher, Emperor Dragonfly, Broad-leaved Helleborine, Purple Hairstreak Butterfly, Little Egret.
Cache is small click box,it contains log book, pencil and sharpener in it.
There is room for small trackables.
