Who: YOU!
When: April 23rd 12:00pm
Where: Saluda Shoals Park Environmental Center
It’s come time for our monthly meeting! Who are we? We
don’t know for sure. As those who attended last month’s
meeting know, we are undergoing an identity crisis, and need a new
name (read on).
This meeting should be very eventful, so please plan to attend if
possible. Due to the nature of the events at the meeting, a fairly
accurate head count will be necessary, so please RSVP as early as
you can!
This month’s meeting is going to be held in beautiful Saluda
Shoals Park! Many of you are familiar with this park, as it is not
only a wonderful place to hike, picnic, kayak/canoe, or just enjoy
the outdoors, but it’s also packed with some great caches.
There will be a CITO meeting in this park the same day, and all are
welcome to attend both! (See GC2R570 for details) This meeting will
be held at the Environmental Center (check coordinates for
parking!). Parking is going to be free to anyone attending this
event, just mention the you are here for the geocaching event, and
you will get in free.
First of all, this meeting is going to be a pot-luck style cook
out! Or that was the original goal. Due to an event in the park, we
cannot get a pavilion with a grill, all I could get was a room in
the Environmental Center. They said if we bring a grill, we can set
it up outside. So at this point, I'm going to work under the
assumption one of you fine folks will be able to bring a grill for
us! If so, depending on attendance, I will try to provide hot dogs
and hamburgers for all in attendance (any assistance would be
appreciated), and I’m asking all of you to provide the rest!
All the wonderful sides and desserts are up to you. Bring cole
slaw, potato salad, macaroni, chips, your favorite soda, or
anything you’d like. I do ask that every person/group that
attends bring something, as there will not be enough for everyone
if they do not. Please post what you will be bringing in your RSVP!
(Also please let me know if you’re a talented griller, and
are willing to help with the cooking, or more importantly, if you
can BRING a grill with you!)
Next, as mentioned before we are in need of a new group name. In
short, many were displeased with the current group name (Midlands
Geoholics), as it was not always met with the desired response when
being presented as an official group. A motion was passed at the
last meeting to change the name! Now we as a group need to decide
what that name will be. Up until April 22nd, I will be taking all
suggestions for new names via email. We would prefer something
professional sounding, and preferably with good initials. (Examples
would be like YoGO “York County Geocaching
Organizaion”, or GCGC “Greater Charlotte Geocaching
Club”) We will be having a vote at this meeting to determine
the best name.
We will also be discussing some neat things for the future of the
group, and some fun upcoming things to look forward to! There will
be a raffle, with some cool prizes, and please bring some
trackables, or prizes you are willing to contribute to make the
raffle better! If you’re going to be hitting a 1k or 5k
milestone before the meeting, please post in your RSVP, or contact
me or a member of the ammo can commity. All cachers and groups are
welcome, but as stated before it is VERY IMPORTANT that I know how
many will be in attendance to make my best effort to provide enough
food. So please remember to RSVP on this page, and do it as soon as
you can. In your post do not forget to include: HOW MANY will be
coming with you, and WHAT YOU will be bringing to contribute! Also
don’t forget to come up with some great names and get them
submitted to me as soon as possible.
I hope to see you there!
