Geocache Description:

King Kong would be a ding dong to search here,
but Paul Bunyon would be clear
that it is hidden in some place he holds dear.

You are looking for a 1.5" square plastic cube.

The Schoolhouse Shelter is a construction project of the WPA. North Park contains a number of structures constructed by unemployed Allegheny County citizens as part of the federal WPA make work program during the depression. It was a one room school house called Walters School and was constructed between 1834 and 1837. Walters School was closed around 1923 and was destroyed by fire in 1938. The Schoolhouse Shelter is a rustic duplex shelter constructed in 1941 and is referenced as WPA 2440.

North Park was dedicated on June 18, 1927. Many of the infrastructure and improvements made to the park were the results of the efforts by men working for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the depression. There are several geocaches in the park that tell the history of North Park.

The fence post remains adjacent to the cemetery are from the game preserve fencing used for buffalo whose caretakers were Blackfoot Indians from Montana. The game reserve encompassed the area between Walter Road, Pearce Mill Road, and Lakeshore Drive.
