While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

Pyrrhula Pyrrhula, or "Dompap" in Norwegian (Common Bullfinch), is the only species within the Pyrrhula family that is indigenous to Norway. Dompap is often used in pictures from wintery Norway. The cache is locked. the code is the three first digits of the east coordinate, 010.




NORWEGIAN:

Dompapen liker seg best i nåle- og blandingsskog, men også i parker og hager. Den bygger sine reder i busker og trær hvor den legger 4-7 egg. Eggene er blå-hvite med små, svarte prikker i den ene enden. Noen ganger besøker den folks hager og kan da ta for seg av knopper på f. eks. frukttrær, noe som gjør at enkelte ikke er så glad i den.

Dompapen har ikke sang. Den har en enslig, vakker fløytetone, ikke noe mer. Men det fortelles at det tidligere skal ha hendt at fuglehandlere i Sør-Tyskland har lært opp små dompapunger til å synge. Metoden var å ta de små fugleungene fra reir og plassere dem i et bur i et mørkt rom. Flere ganger om dagen går så en fløytespiller inn i det mørke rommet og spiller noen enkle toner (noen ganger kan det være en fiolinspiller). Dette gjentas om og om igjen. Når dompapungene har hørt dette lenge nok blir fugleburet flyttet fra det mørke rommet og inn i et lysere hvor sola skinner inn. Gleden over å oppleve solskinnet og «våren» skal da etter sigende få de små dompapungene til å sette i å synge de tonene de tidligere har lært.

ENGLISH:

The Bullfinch, Common Bullfinch or Eurasian Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae. In Anglophone Europe it is known simply as Bullfinch, as it is the original bird to bear the name bullfinch.

This bird breeds across Europe and temperate Asia. It is mainly resident, but many northern birds migrate further south in the winter.

Mixed woodland with some conifers is favoured for breeding, including parkland and gardens. It builds its nest in a bush, (preferably more than 4 metres tall and wide),mature stands of scrub, or tree, laying 4-7 eggs. The food is mainly seeds and buds of fruit trees, which can make it a pest in orchards. Ash and hawthorn are favoured in autumn and early winter.[2] If wild bird cover is planted for it, Kale, Quinoa and Millet are preferred, next to tall hedges or woodland.

This species does not form large flocks outside the breeding season, and is usually seen as a pair or family group.

LEINSTRANDMARKA

The Leinstrand woods are a part of Trondheim municipality's many areas for recreation and outdoor activities. This area is largely protected, and not far from here is the Rørmyra nature preserve. From the cache location, you can walk up to the Rønningen Old Farm, where one can take a break or book activities or other facilities in advance.
