Built in 1848 during the reign of King Rama III by Chao Phraya Bodindecha (sing Singhaseni) a great military commander who was victorious against the Khmers and the Vietnamese. He found even greater faith after the victories and donated his house and land to the construction of a temple.
The Temple was named Wat Chaichana Songkhram which means Win war or War Victory in commemoration of the victory. The temple is also known as Wat Thuek (Concrete building) as it and the accompanying buildings were made of concrete.
The area is also known as Klong Thom for the market that exists around it. Mainly hardware, watches and electronic toys are also found in this street market. On the other side of the temple is a market that was called "thieves Market" where one would go after having your house robbed to go buy back all your stuff. Now it is a antiques and other trendy old stuff market.
