You're looking for a small cammo'd jar.
The Rice Canyon and East Canyon trails are located along The Old Road in Santa Clarita. There is free street parking and also permit parking in the small parking lot...there's a short nature trail to walk through at the parking lot. You can either hike or bike the East Canyon trail but the Rice Canyon trail is for hikers only. You'll be hiking along Rice Creek in Rice Canyon in the Santa Susana Mountains....and this area is in the Santa Clarita Woodlands Park. The trail crosses the creek several times and wanders through grassy slopes....you'll notice natural oil seeps streamside as you hike further in...when the trail starts to wander away from the stream. Rice Canyon trail is considered a loop trail for one and a half miles but we've noticed several other side trails...not sure where they go or which ones create the loop....we've just hiked in and then back out...the trail map (found at www.LAMountains.com) doesn't show a complete loop so more exploring will have to be done. Another useful link for trails and maps is found at www.localhikes.com.
The trail is lush and green....and the stream is running strong...creating wonderful sounds...lots of frogs croaking, too. There's poison oak, thistles, and some ticks but if you stay on the trail, it's an easy in & out hike. Be safe and be prepared for any hikes in the hills and canyons....and Happy Caching!
