Geocache Description:

Located at the foot of Oliver Street. Bring your own pen/pencil.

This park is located on the site of the former home of pioneer Alexander McDougall in 1882. This parcel of land once had fruit trees, vegetable gardens, chickens and a barn for the family’s horses. The original house was destroyed in 1925 and the house was replaced by the house that still stands today on Third Avenue. (Note: this house was torn down on June 7th, 2013. A developer is planning to build two houses on this lot. I suppose this is progess in New Westminster.) The city took over this property because of non-payment of taxes in the 1930s. Council decided to turn over the land to the Parks Commission in 1939. Once known as Oliver Park because the access was provided by Oliver Street, the name was changed to Sullivan Park, named after city councilor, Harry Sullivan, who was on city council during the time the city took over the property.
