Geocache Description:

Smithers Beach - Bogged

Welcome to my 47th cache hide...
This is the third of a short series in the Smithers Beach Reserve, a reserve of public land - listed as state park - on the NSW side of the Murray River, just out of Tocumwal. This is only about 2.5 kms from my home, and i never knew about his spot until i placed the first two caches in this series. A bit of research using Google Maps and some Murray River charts gave me the insight to this location.

Now, when i say "Bogged" i mean bogged. I got bogged trying to get in to the actual location of Smithers Beach itself, which is a little further along the river from where this cache is located. There is a heap of mud here, and when i went into it, it didn't look as bad as it was. but i soon found out other wise.

90 minutes later and some assistance and i was out. I have uploaded a photo of the car bogged just for fun. The only think hurt was my pride fortunately. If you want to walk through the mud all the way to Smithers Beach itself, good luck. I will try it again after i get some mud tyres and 3 extra inches of clearance on the car. It was a bit of fun though.

After getting the car out, the kids, James and Jemma decided to have a play in the mud. I was in there pretty bad.

It seems quite an unknown and unused area. You will have to drive past a house at the end of Smithers Road to the right. The road, i can assure you is public property, and you will see the state park signs at the end of the road.

It is a very beautiful place, but be sure to close the gate when you enter, as there are cows grazing in the state park area. I think being a state park, camping is permitted in here. I believe if you can make it right to the end to Smithers Beach itself, it is a wonderful fishing spot.

BTW, this is a custom cache container, and very well camo'd. I have rated it as a 3. Feedback would be appreciated if it is felt the rating is out. No hint yet.

That's about it folks, hope you have a bit of fun in the area. As always in the Australian bush, LOOK OUT FOR SNAKES AND SPIDERS.
