This cache has been archived.

Prime Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Super easy, but a short walk. You may NOT access this cache thru any of the yards along Valleycrest drive. Please park down at the park and take the short walk into the park.

When you get to the cache and look around, every house you see to the west is soon to be demolished and the land returned to functioning flood plain. Rush Creek wins! On 9/8/2010 rains from tropical storm Hermine dumped over 10 inches of rain into this watershed. At the spot of the cache water reached over 6 feet deep. We enjoyed living here for 17 years with only minor flooding issues, and the house SW of the cache did not flood for all of its 31 one years. However, years of developement upstream, some in the floodplain, most of it not, have increased the rate of runoff and Rush Creeks main channel can no longer hold it. Then Hermine arrived.

Knowing it will happen again, the City found it much cheaper to buy and remove 50+ homes and 100 apartments than to try and tame the creek , , , , which wouldn't work anyway. Sad, but so thankful for the City for taking care of us.

Lesson learned - don't build in floodplains! Even if you raise your structure high enough to avoid floodwaters, you are pushing that water on someone else. Lesson 2 - anyone can get federal flood insurance - you do not have to live in the 100 year floodplain. Of the 50 homes flooded. 25% of them were NOT in the 100 year floodplain.

You are looking for a pile of rocks in the park right behind the fence of one of the houses. Please stay out of the yard - the neighbors still live in their house for the time being and remain vigilant. After you find the cache please rebuild the beautiful sculpture . . . . lol.
