This cache is situated near the entrance to the Jim Clark Room.
In the room, you can see the majority of the awards and trophies he won during his career.
Jim clark was born on 4th March 1936 in Kilmany, Fife. The family moved to Edington Mains Farm, near Chrinside, Berwickshire, in 1942. An involvement in motor racing began in 1955 when Jim joined the Berwick and District Motor Club and went to driving test meetings and local rallies. Another local farmer, Ian Scott-Watson, encouraged Jim in sports car racing, and the two men founded the Border Motor Racing Club. During 1956 and 1957 Jim sprinted on the local airfield at Winfield and raced at Charterhall airfield. Jim's extraordinary motor racing talent was soon recognised and he joined Colin Chapman's Team Lotus in 1960, driving the Lotus 18 in his first Formula 1 season. Jim won the Formula 1 Motor Racing World Championship in 1963 and 1965, and was the first Brittish driver to win the Indianapolis 500 mile race in 1965. Tragically, he was killed during an unimportant Formula 2 race at Hockenheim, Germany, on April 7, 1968.
