Geocache Description:

The cache is small plastic food box containing a log book and a number of small exchange items. It is well hidden and cannot be seen from normal head height. The searcher is asked to replace the box in exactly the same location as it is found.

Apparently, some nettles have grown around the cache site, so caution (and gloves) are needed.

The cache is near to Carisbrooke castle, a motte-and-bailey castle dating from around 1000 AD. Charles I was imprisoned in the castle prior to his execution in 1649.

It is probably best to park in the free car park in Carisbrooke village. (50.691444,-1.312416). Walk up the hill from the car park and turn down Castle Street. Cross the ford, then follow Miller's lane westwards to the cache site.

It is strongly recommended that you do not drive to the cache. Though a public road runs by the cache site, it is narrow and you will find it difficult to park without causing an obstruction. You will also have to negotiate a ford, which can run quite deep. The walk from the car park in Carisbrooke is only about 1/2 mile and is on paved roads which carry very little traffic.

I have received reports about damage to the surrounding area caused by people searching for the cache. Please note: You do NOT have to stray from the path and you do NOT have to crush, thrash or otherwise damage surrounding vegetation to find the cache. The most you will have to do is to GENTLY move aside some nettles to gain access to the cache's hiding place. This is a beautiful place. Please don't spoil it for others.
