Geocache Description:

I was researching for information on this Cache Location & came across this interesting story:

Close to this location during the late 1950's & early 1960's a rather eccentric wandering storyteller by the name of "Fethworth Noggins" would often stop to sit & tell a tale or two as he passed through on his travels around the Welsh Countryside.

His visits here, became more frequent & he soon became accquainted with the Landlord of a nearby Tafarn who offered him a room for few nights. At night he would entertain the folks of the village with his outlandish fantasy stories. & during the day he would often be found sitting on a tree stump surrounded by fascinated children who would sit listening in silence, eagerly at his vast collection of Fables & Tales.

The Storyteller soon became fond of the village & its inhabitants so he chose to settle here for the time being. For a while he was a popular character but it wasn't long before his popularity began dwindle.

One afternoon an angry group of Parents accompanied by School Master confronted the Storyteller accusing him of filling the young & impresssionable minds of the children with nonsense with his tales of adventure & mischief & of encouraging the children to play truant from school in order to attend Fethworth's readings.

One child even stole the village blacksmith's horse claiming to be "Billy the Kid" & planned to Ride to "The Wild West to fight the Red Indians" The childs father had discovered a goodbye note left by the would-be runaway which ended the childs planned outing..! Noggins was forced to leave the village & told never to return. He was never seen or heard of again, but strangley enough every year a book of Tall Tales is left on the old tree stump once favoured by the Wandering Storyteller.!
