Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches that highlight the bridges that span the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Please bring a pen or pencil to sign the log.

The Pennsylvania Railroad aquired the Tyrone & Clearfield Railroad in 1866 thanks to an association of 75 volunteers which raised $77,000 to build the railroad line to Clearfield. The first train arrived in Clearfield in January, 1869. On Christmas Day, 1874, due to efforts similar to Clearfield, Curwensville got train service on tracks extended from Clearfield that crossed the bridge where this cache is located. It took 18 years for the tracks to be extended to Grampian, the western termination of the rails to trails. The main purpose of the trail line was to transport coal to metropolitan markets.Due to this being a rails to trails, you can expect a good amount of muggler action so be very covert! Please replace the container as you found it. Good luckl Oh and if you haven't found it yet, check out my Christmas Cache 2009 (GC23AE7) which is located between the parking area and this cache.
