Geocache Description:

Geocache is located in Alafia River State Park. We first visited this state park several months ago and really enjoyed our visit. You are hunting a ammo box about 100 feet off the trail.

This 6,312 acre park is a former phosphate mine in southeastern Hillsborough County and offers equestrian and hiking trails and trails suitable for mountain bicycles. At several lakes, visitors can enjoy fishing, relaxing, or bird watching. Picnic pavilions, a playground, horseshoe pit and volleyball area are available. For overnight stays, the park has a full facility campground and equestrian friendly campground. For more information, including park FEES and HOURS, please visit: here

This trail is steep in parts with elevation changes. These are old phosphate pits that were mined and abandoned prior to the enactment of Florida's mandatory Reclamation Law in 1975. These water filled pits are surrounded by steep ridges of cast spoils of overburden. The spoils have become forested through natural seed dispersal and the pits contain game fish.

Geocache is placed with permission of Park Manager.
