Scholar's Mate* Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

JirafaBo: Gonna go ahead and shut this one down because of the new construction going on. Looks like Winter Park is expanding block by block into Eatonville! I hear condos are going up on this lot.

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the coordinates listed above.

This is the second of a few chess-themed, puzzle caches I'll be hiding. I hope to make each subsequent puzzle more difficult than the previous.

Sometimes referred to as the Four-move Checkmate (though there are other ways to checkmate in four moves), this play is common amongst beginners. There are often slight variations of this play, but all rely on attacking one of the boards most ill-defensed squares.

Observe the following play. To solve the puzzle, you need to checkmate the black King with the correct 3rd and 4th move. Remember that your move #3 will not show in the picture for move #4.

Did you determine the correct moves to capture the Black King? Great! Now use the file of move #3 and rank of move #4 (ignore the piece notations, you just want the correct positions for this puzzle) and determine the coordinates of the cache from the following table. You may check your answer by clicking on the image below the table.

Plenty of room for travelers & tradeables. FTF get's the Captured King and his trea$ure!

*****CONGRATS to Beeortoise & LovelyLisa, FTF and first to capture the King!*****
