The Elm Ridge Lean-to Cache is hidden in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest near the Elm Ridge Lean-to. It is a camo-ed match stick container. Winter friendly. Log only so bring a pen.
The Elm Ridge Wild Forest consists of 1,355 acres of state Forest Preserve land, and lies at the northernmost edge of the Catskill Forest Preserve in the Greene County Towns of Windham, Durham, and Cairo. The unit contains a 1.5-mile portion of the Escarpment Trail, the 1.1-mile long Elm Ridge Trail, and numerous shorter trails available for multiple uses, including hiking, x-country skiing, and mountain biking. This unit includes a portion of the former Windham High Peak Wild Forest. The hike from Peck Road is interesting as you will pass a small quarry and a rocky cliff as you approach the cache area. The cache is hidden well behind the lean-to and the approach is easy from the lean-to. You can park at the end of Peck Road. A trailhead/parking lot is there. Parking is also at the end of the Escarpment trail on Rte 23.
This cache was set following the DEC guidlines Part 190: Use Of State Lands.
