The fairy steps Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

malx194: Very disappointing. The public path has virtually disappeared as the farmer has erected polytunnels on both sides of the line of trees that the path followed. Problematical too. A group in Carnoustie has been given money to restore the bridge at the end of the path, so I am not sure how all this will be resolved

Geocache Description:

A short walk off the minor road by Panbride church at the north edge of Carnoustie
The cache is a small cotton bud container. no pencil.

This is a walk called The Fairy Steps, from the road down to the Craigmill burn. It is smooth and dry (in spring) but in summer it gets very overgrown in parts (nettles!! DON'T wear shorts or flipflops). It is a clear path until you reach the bit that the farmer has ploughed across. You may be able to walk on but the bridge is no longer safe.

You can park at N56 30.749 W002 41.834, beside Panbride Church (see related web page above) and opposite the Old Manor B&B. There are good views of Carnoustie and the sea, and the two church steeples can be seen as you come into Carnoustie from Muirdrum.

Once you have done the cache, if you continue east from the church for about 400 metres you come to a pleasant walk along Craigmill Den which takes you down to the Carnoustie Easthaven road and cycle path. In March you can find snowdrops and primroses flowering at the same time and in mid May the hawthorn (may) blossom display along the burn is fantastic.
