Geocache Description:

The cache is placed close to the crash site of this aircraft, which was brought down on Wed 25th Sept 1940.
There is parking close by on the main road, or you may drive down the lane, to the dead end and walk down the footpath, but if you want to walk in the lovely Maplehurst Woods, I would suggest you park on the main road.

The cache is a small plastic box containing usual goodies, plus one of our running medals.

This plane was shot down right at the end of Battle of Britian, it was subject to a low level attack by P/O JMF Dewar of 229 Sqr, who chased this Light Bomber and put one of the engines out of action. The two man crew of the Messerschmitt 110 attempted to crash land, in a field, but both died as a result of the crash.
Crew Members were Obert Eberhard aged 24 who was killed in the aircraft and FW Gustav Nglson aged 27 who was thrown clear on impact but died of his injuries the same day. Both are buried in Hastings Cementry.

The aircraft was removed and the metal used to build British Aircraft.

The woods are filled in the spring with lovely wild flowers, please explore.
