Geocache Description:

Placed to honer the original settlers of this land. They were not ENGLISH ! For your own safety remember to where a white cloth on your head or else..(no bushwacking needed) Park near skateboard park, trail in corner of lot.Photobucket

Back in the 80s 1680s that is. Two tribal leaders Pethus and Ahamo of the Tunxis Clan died, and a new leader was needed. A meeting was held at the home of one John Wadsworth. For his help (weather they wanted it or NOT) he was awarded this land in the meadow, that is still owned by his family. In the heart of the Tunxis man was owned by the land not the other way around. Then came the 18th century in the year 1704 a massacre of English in Deerfield Ma. set off a panic in and around the village. The town folk set forth to fortify no less than seven homes for protection from the raiding Mohawks from the northwest. The Tunxis were told to remove any paint from their faces, also to at all times when out in public to wear a white cloth on there heads so they would not be mistaken for the Mohawk warriors Who were feared by both Tunxis and English . One man was killed his name was Mr. Scott who resided in a place we now know as Scott Swamp. Was his death from raiding Mohawks or murder by someone who had a axe to grind with Mr Scott? We may never know so much early history of this land was written to make the English look like the Good Guys Were They? This Cacher has Doubts.Understandable as my Great Great grandmother was 100 percent MOHAWK Alright enough history already, go get that cache!!
