ExploreWV Main Street Challenge - Ronceverte Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheRaysInWV: Many thanks to everyone who searched for this cache through the years and apologies to those who were hoping to find it. This cache has had a great run, but it seems to be going missing more frequently, and its too far from home for me to keep up with it. So, I'm archiving it in case someone closer to Ronceverte would like to place a cache here and maintain it better than I can. Thanks again folks!

Ronceverte, a community as unique as its name, is a city of firsts for Greenbrier county and since its formation in 1882 has been home to the area's first hospital, fire engine, district schools, and power plant, as well as the Saint Lawrence Boom and Manufacturing Company, the world's largest softwood producing mill from 1881 until 1913. Today, Main Street Ronceverte continues this pattern of development by being an active member in preserving and revitalizing the community's downtown area. Through the organization, storefronts continuously receive face lifts, refurbished buildings get a second life, and the organization is currently working to restore the town's 1915 CSX train depot and the 1937 Art Deco Grand Theater. Ronceverte continues its ties with lumber heritage with Mullican Lumber and Flooring, producing custom wood flooring, to Greenbrier Architectural Woodwork producing custom cabinetry. Aside from promoting economic growth, Ronceverte is also the gateway to many recreation opportunities in the Greenbrier River Valley, from riverfront access along the 22 acre Island Park and water sports to historic walking tours of significant landmarks in downtown, to the newly opened Lewisburg and Ronceverte Rail Trail.
